Nan Alamilla Boyd has a B.A. in History from UC Berkeley (1986) and an M.A. and Ph.D. in American Civilization from Brown University (1989, 1995). At San Francisco State University, she teaches courses on the history of sexuality, queer theory, historical methodology, and urban tourism.
Note: For the academic year 2017-18 I will be a visiting scholar at TU Delft, the Netherlands, conducting research on bio-inspired design and transformable origami structures, hosted by the bio-mechanical engineering department (BITE Group, minimally invasive surgical instrumentation, Prof. Paul Breedveld).
Joshua Singer is a graphic designer, teacher, and writer. His work is a commingling of research and creative works in areas including semiotics and alternative practices of Critical-Design. He is also the principal of Atomtan Design creating editorial and identity for arts institutions and non-profits. He has a BA from Hampshire College, an MFA in Fine Art from Hunter College, C.U.N.Y. and an MFA in Design from California College of the Arts.
Silvan received a BID from Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada working on the design of smart assistive medical devices, and later an MSD from Arizona State University studying slow technology and new theories of human-machine interfaces. His research interests include advanced rapid prototyping techniques, local-scale manufacturing and product development, new human-machine interface concepts, smart products and embedded technologies.
Professor Ricardo Gomes has been a faculty member in the School of Design (formerly the Design and Industry (DAI) Department) at San Francisco State University for nearly 27 years. He was the Chair of the DAI Department from 2002-2012. Prof. Gomes coordinates the Design Center for Global Needs and the Shapira Design Archive Project in the School of Design (DES).

Yu-Charn Chen is an expert in computer-aided design and industrial engineering technology. Chen has taught undergraduate and graduate courses in Computer Aided Design & Drafting (AutoCAD), computer simulation (PSPICE, LTSPICE, NI Multisim, Electronics Workbench), microcomputer control systems, and Industrial Research & Development (R&D). He has worked as a design engineer for several companies in the U.S. He also taught ENGR 353Microelectronics + ENGR310 Microelectronics Lab in the School of Engineering at SF State.
