CARLOS DAVIDSON

Professor, Environmental Studies, School of Public Affairs & Civic Engagement

Carlos Davidson, joined the Environmental Studies Program at SF State in 2005 and served as the program director/coordinator from 2005 to 2015. He is a conservation biologist with a research focus on the causes of amphibian population declines. He is also interested in issues of environmental justice, sustainability, and climate change. Davidson was active in sustainability issues on the SF State campus. He helped found the University Sustainability Committee, co-authored the campus’ first greenhouse gas emissions inventory, and worked on the first campus climate action plan. Davidson was a faculty leader in the campaign which resulted in SF State becoming the first public college or university to do any form of fossil fuel divestment. In retirement, he plans to pursue his passion for backpacking and continue his climate activism. He is currently working with the California Faculty Association on divesting CalPERS, with the student led group Divest the CSU on CSU systemwide divestment, and with local environmental groups on San Mateo County divestment.
