Bio:

As a lecturer of English Composition, I strive to help students build connections between various critical approaches of writing, reading and thinking and the broader contexts of the university within a dynamic and challenging world outside of the classroom. In courses where it is relevant, I engage students in reading, thinking and writing about society, culture and the broader world through methods that serve them as students and global citizens with unique stakes and rooted contexts. Various approaches have been used to accomplish this intent, including First-Year and Second-Year Composition courses designed around themes related to social justice, contemporary artistic practices, participatory citizenship, and social critique. The courses I design and offer at SFSU make use of literacy practices to support the development of critical consciousness and academic strategies that are transferable across disciplines and into the world that students encounter in their daily lives.
