Music and Cognition

Purpose and Background

The purpose of the research is to study the relationship between cognitive control abilities and musicianship.

Study Requirements

• At least 18 years of age
• San Francisco State University student or affiliate 

Procedures 

If you agree to participate in this research, the following will occur over two one-hour sessions: 

• You will participate in a series of computer-controlled tasks in which you will be asked to respond via keyboard and mouse to a set of on-screen instructions
• You will participate in an auditory assessment of your musical perceptive abilities in which you must differentiate different types of musical stimuli
• You will participate in a series of online questionnaires in which will you will answer questions about your background, language skills, musical history, and behavioral tendencies
• The total time to complete all tasks is approximately 120 minutes
