Blake Riggs

Blake Riggs is an associate professor and Associate Chair in the Department of Biology at San Francisco State University (SFSU).  Dr. Riggs grew up in South Los Angeles and attended UC Santa Cruz (UCSC) as an undergraduate. He was a Minority Access to Research Careers (MARC) scholar and received a Bachelors degree in Marine Biology, but was fascinated with the idea of cell division.  He received both his Master’s degree and PhD in Molecular, Cell and Developmental Biology at UCSC on research involving role of intracellular membrane transport on cell division.  Dr.

Sally G Pasion

Sally Pasion joined the faculty at San Francisco State in 2001, and is currently an Associate Professor of Biology, and teaches general education Biology courses to nonmajors, genetics and molecular biology to majors, and cell & molecular techniques to graduate students.  Her research interests include DNA replication and telomere maintenance in Schizosaccharomyces pombe, the fission yeast, which is an excellent system for training undergraduate and graduates students in basic cell biology, molecular biology, and microbiology.

Leticia Marquez-Magana

Leticia Márquez-Magaña, PhD is Professor of Biology and the Director of the Health Equity Research (HER) Laboratory at San Francisco State University. She is the first-born daughter of Mexican immigrants and began her education in the U.S. as a monolingual Spanish speaker. Professor Márquez-Magaña attended Stanford University as the first member of her extended U.S. family to complete high school. She earned a co-terminal BS/MS degree in Biological Sciences at Stanford, and went on to earn a PhD in Biochemistry at UC Berkeley.

Gretchen Le Buhn

Interests: Plant evolutionary ecology, pollinator conservation and climate change.

My lab focuses on the effects of anthropogenic change on plant and animal communities from local to continental scales. We are currently working on the effect of wildfire on pollinator communities, the impacts of climate warming on urban pollinators  and the montane meadow pollinators.

Zachary Hui He

My lab uses Arabidopsis as the model system and applies a combination of cell, molecular, biochemical and genetic approaches to understand how cells communicate during plant growth and development. We discovered the RUS gene family and characterized the functional roles of several RUS members.

Michael A Goldman

I did my undergraduate work in Biology at the University of Rochester, and obtained a Ph.D. in evolutionary biology at Purdue University in 1981. Turning to human genetics, I completed two fellowships in Medical Genetics, one at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, the other at the University of Washington in Seattle. I joined the faculty at San Francisco State University in 1988, where I am currently Professor and Former Chair of the Department of Biology. Currently I serve the Chair of the University Academic Senate.
